Gary Anthony Nowlin, age 71, passed away on the 5th of May 2020 in Alpharetta, a suburb of Atlanta Georgia from leukemia.
He was born in Pretoria, South Africa on the 21st of May 1948. His father was attached to the U.S. Air Force, and they were stationed in South Africa for two years during his service.
Gary Nowlin attended the Regis Catholic High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where he received an appointment to the US Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD. At the time, he was living with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Nowlin of 4500 Wenig Road NE, Cedar Rapids, IA. Gary entered the United States Naval Academy on the 29th of June 1966.
After resigning from the Naval Academy in February 1968, Gary headed for South Africa which he then made his permanent home. He met and married his wife Debbie in February 1974 and lived a very happy life in South Africa. He was very passionate about South Africa’s most popular sport, rugby..
Gary and his wife Debbie moved to Alpharetta, Georgia in February 2020 to be with their son and his family who immigrated in 2016. Gary is survived by his wife, son, four grandchildren, and daughter in law.
